newcomer here...

i have a canon 58mm lens adapter with HOYA UV filter.. do i need to protect my filter since i do not have a 58mm size lens cap?

I picked up a generic 58mm lens cap from the local camera store for $3.99, and it's the clip in style so it has the two tabs that lock the cap into the filter. it won't ever fall off (common complaint with the Canon cap). I went with the cap with no cord, when I take it off I just put it in my pocket vs. having it dangle.

These responses are great, thanks again to everyone.
The one question that wasn't answered was, I realize the adapter blocks some of the flash, but what about the AF assist beam?

Hi Bosman, wecome to the world of the G6. I too only got mine last november and since getting it i have taken some fantastic shots especially macro. I have always wanted to take macro but was never confident with print film as at times it was hit and miss but with the gigital stuff you can see what you've taken and see the exposure change while using different settings........

I am also looking forward to getting some lens adaptors in the near future especially close up lenses?

Take a look at what i think are some of the best choice of shots i've taken on theis web-address www.karlsphotography.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk (external link)

Also this snail shot was taken a few days ago in my kitchen using an upside down pint glass so it had limited space to move........good luck with your new toy and we all look forward to sseing some of your shots SOON!

Ok, I'm very new to this forum and just got my G6 about a month ago. I would really like to know what is the deal with
lens adapters?? Canon makes a 58mm one, but when I read the threads some have the 52mm and some have 58mm and most of you seem to buy from lensmate not Canon. It seems that some people buy them only to put a filter on them to protect the lens? Does the adapter get in the way of the flash? It seems to from the pics at lens mate? I assume it doesn't block the AF light on the G6. Anyways, if some kind person would explain why and if I need one or would want one and if it seems to me better to get the 58mm since that is what Canon makes. Sorry I'm just really green, but want to make the very most of my G6.

Joe
