If you plan on taking most of your pics during the daytime when there will be plenty of sunlight, then take your 24-105. The extra range will come in handy.

exactly - better range and you wont really need 2.8 anyway

Unless you want to have more depth of field control...

I have had my 17-55MM f/2.8 EF-S IS since mid-2005. No dust issues whatsoever. I put a B+W MRC UV filter on it on day one.

Lens came out in May 2006.

i think there have been enough comparisons that show that 105mm at F4 blurs the background more than 70mm (let alone 55mm) at 2.8... but anyway...

Mine was a close to release copy. I had dust building in rapidly the first month. Sent it in for cleaning, and slapped a filter on it after that, which mitigated 98% of the dust issues. Occasionally cleaned it myself, and occasionally sent it in. After a trip to Death Valley and the Grand Canyon, there was significant dust inside (even with filter - I dread to think what it would have been like without), so just cleaned it myself.

Meh, it's a camera - get out and use it. If it gets dusty, it gets dusty.
