Alternative Focusing Screens

You know I never thought of looking anywhere other than canon when I was buying upgraded focusing screens.

I just learned of katzeyes which also sells canon focusing screen (although it seems not for the 1D). Are there others, worth looking at?

It was a huge improvement for me going from the stock to the updated, so are the alternatives worth it?

All focusing screens will, to some extent, effect AE. Depending on the screen, the AE effect may change with lens (usually max. aperture). This is why Canon has CFs to adjust for each one.

Some, particularly split screens or other similar, will cause major changes to the center AE metering point(s) and may not be able to be reliably used particularly with evaluative and spot/partial.

For some using manual focus only lenses, the tradeoffs are worth it.
