Just another POV here... I don't have any particular cause to defend the Powerex batteries, but I have two complete sets of 16: one bought in 2013 and the other in 2014. Both battery sets get cycled about once a week (soft charged in the MAHA charger) and used to power a trio of large speedlights. All of them are still at or very near full capacity, and don't get noticeably warm in use - not nearly as bad as the old NiCd cells I used to use! Of course, as mentioned, I soft charge them, and the shoots typically last 2-3 hours at a fairly low duty cycle so they're not being stressed very much. I swap them out periodically with a set of Eneloop Pro (bought in 2015) sort of as a comparison; but honestly I haven't had an issue with any of them nor have I had to recondition any of the cells. Now, the Energizer and Rayovac batteries haven't fared so well.
