Of the people who have a nifty fifty AND use UV filters on their more $$ glass, do you use one on the 50? When the filter is 1/3 the price of the lens, I have to wonder.
Thanks

I don't worry about my 50/1.8 because the front element is so deeply recessed. I'd like to get a filter for my Tamron 28-75 but just haven't gotten around to it. Steven

raylks Member 180 posts Joined Jan 2005 More info | I use protect filter for my telephoto lens. I also got a filter for my EF17-40mm L but actually I don't always use it as I always shoot with a CPL if light is sufficient.

The filter I am looking at is a hoya "super-multi-coated" filter, apparantly with anti-glare, super-multi-coated filter action! Who knows. Adam Pender

Don't use cheap filters, they cause lens flare and other bad things. Professional wedding photographer, solution architect and general technical guy with multiple Amazon Web Services certifications.

In my very short experience with lenses ( ex G3 user ) i have fitted cheap skylights to the lenses i have got including my nifty and upto now images have been ok , i just feel more confident handling and cleaning lenses with £20.00 skylights fitted .

I've got polarizers (2), close-ups (2), 5-star, soft focus and the UV for it. Usually I'm using one of the others for some type of effect. For me, I just make it a general rule to have some sort of filter on every lens regardless of cost. While the lens itself is cheap, if something did happen to scratch the front element, I'd be without the lens until I could pickup a new one and may miss "the shot" if you know what I mean. Why would you say that? Try putting a thin strip of paper on the lens and shoot a few pictures. I bet you'll only be able to see some difference at F/22 The filter I am looking at is a hoya "super-multi-coated" filter, apparantly with anti-glare, super-multi-coated filter action! Who knows. I too am worried that I can accidently scratch the lens. I do quite a number of beach and shots in the forrest and can accidently hit a branch or something. My camera and myself already received numerous scratches. _______________
