I don't know if this was posted already, I did a search and nothing came up, but this is pretty cool! Carl Zeiss makes some RIDICULOUSLY nice glass! I wonder if it will have AF?

Carl Zeiss has said it will produce a Canon-mount version of its 18mm F3.5 lens. The Distagon T* 3.5/18 super-wide angle lens has previously only been available in the ZF and ZK mounts for Nikon and Pentax cameras, respectively. A Canon-mount version of the lens is being shown at the Photo Imaging Expo 2009 show in Tokyo and will be available 'towards the end of the year,' the company said.

what did you search for? I searched for "zeiss 18mm" and it found this thread posted over 2 weeks ago

I'll sum up the response. There are many looking forward to it hitting the market. How Zeiss prices it will dictate how many actually go buy it.

Voigtländer has a 20mm 3.5 due very soon ... is already available in some places. This is likely to have most of the ability of the Zeiss but for significantly less cash. That is what I'm waiting for. Both brands are close relations. The 18mm is already available on Nikon mount.

Apparently some preliminary testing Voigtlander 20mm f3.5 is reported to suffer low contrast, poor resolution even stopping down to f8

It is the odd one out of the whole VL lens line up

I think 'some' is the important word ... there are plenty of samples around that say different. This is always the case with any new lens. I've got plenty of crummy shots from my two Zeiss when conditions aren't right. Any test shot really should be set up in as perfect light as possible and taken on a tripod. What we usually get is some guy rushes out to be 'first to post' even if it's noon and in 30C sun ;-)a I'd be very confident in any Zeiss or Voigtländer release.

The Zeiss lenses you mentioned are all manual focus lenses. The 18mm ZF lens has been out for some time and it is not as well regarded as some of the other focal lengths. I think the wide angle Zeiss lens worth waiting for in Canon mount is the ZE 21mm f/2.8. Of course you could always just get the 21mm in ZF mount today and use an adapter. It's a great lens that is extremely sharp wide open and has very good contrast.

I thought I typed Zeiss 18mm last night, but it was pretty late, my bad lol.
