Hi Jerry,

1. I'm sure you'll get mixed feelings from others about he crop you choose, but I like it. The White Balance is all too cool for the photo. Nice sunny day out at the park and BAM a winter storm rolls in making everything COOL and blue. I'd warm it up to make it fit the scene.

2. Your focus is on the blanket in front of the boy. You might think about cropping the entire top 1/4 off the photo. Looks like you were shooting pretty wide open with your lens, as in f1.4. Even at an f4 you will still have a good DOF so just because you can doesn't mean you should all the time.

These are just a few. I'll let other the rest.

Okay, no matter what myself or anyone says. What you've done is captured a story. Your photos may not be the best excuted photos ever taken, but the content you've captured is priceless and that's the important stuff. Making sure you're there and ready with the shutter. Well done, the other techy stuff will come with a little more work and practice.

I would change the cropping of these photos. #2 It looks like the focus hit the blanket instead of his face making him really OOF.

Yea, my crops are a little out of the ordinary on these two. I knew I would get comments on them. I left the dead space to try and express solitude and peacefulness.

I love the brokeh on my 50mm 1.4, but I tend to over do it. I'm still learning. I will definitely keep this in mind on my next group of shots. And yea, I missed the focus on his face on the second one. I was bummed, but I thought I'd go for it anyway.

Good thing is the park is steps away from my house, and I'll be able to get plenty more.

Thanks for the comments, you two.

Thanks. Now that you mention it, it does feel a bit on the cold side.

This work better?

I decided to scrap the second one. There's just too many issues with it, and it won't be hard to recreate it later.

I like photo 1, but photo 2 like you said has too many issues, with focus and composition.

Don't want to be Debbie Downer here but the baby is so cute but the positioning does not look natural at all. In fact, it looks quite awkward and that just doesn't sit well for me when it comes to making a great shot.

I think the baby should be on his back or maybe propped up a little on his side. Just my $.02.

Funny enough, this shot is exactly the opposite. I just sat him on the blanket and let him do whatever, while I snapped shots. He rolled over and started chewing his fingers .. looking at me.
This is as natural as it gets. keke :)

Anyhow, I know what you're saying. The position isn't the best. I would of rather seen more of his face.

I need serious lessons in portraits.
Little guy's sick right now, but going to try again next week.
