Was lucky enough to have this steam train come through our neighbourhood today, as part of the 150th anniversary of rail network to London (think!)

I don't normally photograph trains, but this was an opportunity to try.

If I remember correctly :ISO 400, 1/800th @ f5.6 with 100 - 400, using al servo - hope I was using the right combination.
Let me know what you think.

Vulcan,

I've just posted another shot when it came through Salisbury. Where did you shoot from?

I could not decide whether to use my 70-200 or the same lens you used. Finally went for the non IS 70-200 on a tripod.

You know its heading back this afternoon don't you? Gives us a second bite at the cherry. Apparently the new Tornado (yes, I do mean NEW, £16millions worth of new) is due to come our way later in the year.

Hey Lowner - I shot mine at Havant, just before the tracks merge with the Brighton line.
I just saw your pics from Salisbury - and yes, am heading off out again to try get some better shots this time (first time for transport for me.

don't think the shade helps the pictures, soft focused.

Couldn't do anything about the shade - sun was shining on it from the right.
As for focus - I don't know - I was using al servo & 5fps, so maybe it didn't refocus fast enough?
