Belt clip for CP-E4 case?

The CP-E4 battery pack comes with a case with a doohicky (technical term) on the back that you can loop your belt through, but doesn't have a belt clip. I've so far managed by sliding a strip of double-sided velcro in vertically through this doohicky and sliding that strip around my belt. If you don't know what this doohicky on the back of the case looks like, it's like a letter "X" with holes on the sides for a belt as well as holes at the top and bottom that I'm sliding the velcro strip through.

The problem is the velcro strip doesn't to the job if I'm not wearing a belt, e.g. in a few weeks when I'll be wearing shorts for a daytime gig in the Mississippi sun. I'd like to have a belt clip type of thing that I can clip directly onto the top edge of my shorts and will fit in the "X" on the back of the CP-E4 case. Think of something like a money clip but with a hook on one end that will hold the CP-E4 case up by its "X" doohicky. Any suggestions?

How about looking for those bigger case for Blueberry phones with belt clips, that way work.

Maybe something like this? You should be able to find them at most hardware stores. Don't know if you'd want/need to use 2 of them or not.

if I'm shooting in shorts, it's cargo shorts... plenty of pockets for this kind of stuff

Thanks for the suggestions, y'all. Jon, yours might work, but 2 of those together would be really long I think. I guess I'll have to adapt the attire to the task and wear shorts with a belt loop

I was thinking side by side to spread the load a bit, not linked.

So the keyring would attach to my shorts or am I completely turned around? I don't think this thing has hooks on both ends--just one end--and I need 1 hook to hold up the CP-E4 and another hook to attach to the top of my shorts, which is why I was thinking link 2 together by the keyring.

The ones I've seen are sort of an ""S" hook; one part slides over the belt/waist band and the key ring slips over the other. If you ended up with 2 that had fixed rings and hooked them together you could slide them through the belt loop on the CP-E4, maybe with a third ring if you needed the extra length.
