Southern No.825

I was out today on my GoldWing having a nice ride round the Moors, didn't have my gear with me on this occasion ; just as well really as I hit a patch of mud (more like clay really) and dropped the bike. Luckily I managed to keep control until my speed had dropped to about 10mph so no damage done, the wife wasn't too happy though as she's waiting for a cartilage operation already. Any way I digress, I called in at Leversham Station and managed to get these shots with my new IXUS90 (a replacement for my IXUS75 which I dropped on to my tiled floor at home). I didn't think the 90 was as good as the 75; too many pixels on a small sensor; but I'm not too sure now, they're not brilliant but for a little point and shoot I don't think they're too bad. I had to do a little work on them but then again I do when I use any of my SLR's as well, this loco must be one of the most photographed in England as it still runs on a scheduled timetable.

When were these shot as she's based on the Mid Hants Railway now and is decked out in Malachite green.

As I said in the posting, these shots were taken today; well as it's after midnight now I suppose technically they were taken yesterday Monday 13-04-09

These are very nice. I particularly like the second one. What is the purpose of the triangular lumber on each side of the grade crossing? I don't recall seeing those when I lived in the UK.

The triangular timbers are to stop people heading onto the track, difficult to walk on.

My mistake Mick I've just checked loco numbers and mine shots were of 850 not 825 (embarrased!)

The second shot in landscape orientation would have been killer. Still a very nice shot.
