Not sure what's going on here...

File is exported just fine. Sync folder does nothing.

Ideas? LR2.3, OSX 10.4.11

CR2 converted to DNG after editing, as usual. A few images in this folder have the same problem, but not all... Not sure what happened.

I thought DNG does not use a sidecar. That was one of the benefits Adobe was pushing....A 1 file format.

That's why I'm baffled...

The sidecar data is embedded inside the DNG file, as well as JPG files. You will not get sidecar files with DNG. Not sure why Lightroom is complaining that there is a missing sidecar file, as it should know better.

I'd guess the xmp file was already missing before you converted to DNG. You can just ignore it.

I never use XMP.
I write the IPTC into the CR2 using iView Media Pro (Expression Media), then import into LR, develop, export & convert to DNG.

When you click on it, what file is it looking for? It's not necessarily xmp - it could be a jpg or other file with the same name that was alongside the raw file at import time, which is no longer there.

I shoot Raw only ;)
If I click on the "?" nothing happens.
If I right click and go "Export > Update DNG Preview & Metadata" the "?" remains, although the DNG now shows current date & time as modification date in the finder...

Main problem with this is that I'm curious & want to know what's happening; this isn't hampering functionality in any way that I can find

Have a look in the Metadata panel (set to All if you can't see the sidecar section) and see what file it's looking for. Might give you a clue.

If there's a sidecar, there should be another line that says something like 'sidecar files' from memory.

Well, since it's a DNG, there wouldn't be a side car, would there? ;)

Technically there could be a variety of file types seen as a sidecar, which is why I'm asking which kind of sidecar it thinks is missing....

Weird. A couple of files in that folder have the "?", others don't. None mention a sidecar file... I guess I must have accidentally saved the edits to XMP on those few, then deleted the xmp files?

Creating a sidecar file for DNG instead of embedding the parameters in the DNG file can be achieved by making the DNG file read only.
