Thanks for the tip sylvester!

Does anyone know how to get ISO 100 on the 40D in M? I must be retarted because the lowest mine goes is 200 and then it hits auto. I have looked in the manual and it says it is capable of 100 but I can't figure out how to set it.

beano wrote in post #7811712 (external link)
I was just looking at a pdf for the 40D, and it says that iso is fixed at 400 in M!?! Why the hell would they do that? Isn't the point of Manual that you have FULL control!?!

Definitely interested to hear from other 40D owners, as i want to get one at some point.

Box Brownie wrote in post #7811716 (external link)
I think this the one that has been asked many times when the 40D first came out! Look up the setting Hightlight Tone Priority and I think you will find it "on", set it to "off" and see if that sorts it out???

If not that then I blame a senior moment and the HTP setting has another irritating effect

HTH :)

It is not set to 400 ISO in M, that is the "Auto" ISO setting . If you have hightlight tone priority on you are unable to select ISO 100 nor ISO 3200. I worked this out after a week of wondering where ISO 100 had gone lol.

Thank god for that! on Page 60 of the manual i found on-line (could've been messed with i suppose), it says Fixed at 400.

So if i do get one, 1st job will be to turn HTP off!!! :D

go to Custom function 1 : 3 (ISO expansion) and turn it on. you need it to get ISO 100,125,160 and H (3200) iirc and yeah HTP must be off

Right, here's some cricket shots from yesterday.

Apologies for the heavy border and watermark - some of the lads had a tendency to copy my pictures from the website and post them on their facebook pages having chopped off the watermark (which is usually at the bottom) and all without asking. I added the border and watermark in lightroom. Not entirely what I wanted but it'll do! I haven't figured out any other way to do it - I usually let Picasa add it on export which works fine 99% of the time.

Nice shots Mike. I like the 1st one especially, he's gone all Samurai!!

The border's ok, but i'd lessen the opacity on the drop shadow, if you get the option, i've no idea about LR, or Picassa!?! ;)

Thanks Victor. Nah, this was while we were batting. I always bat at 10 or 11 so I usually get plenty of time to take some shots. I was a little disappointed not to get any wicket tumbling shots but the season's young!

Yeah, he was our only decent batsman yesterday. He got a fifty+ which was a joy to watch.

Thanks. First time I used it - it was the slideshow page of Lightroom and you can create the border and watermark etc and then export the photos with them. Quite a bit of a slower process than I am used to but if it dissuades the chaps from taking my pics for facebook it's worth it!

And if it doesn't (and i doubt it will to be honest), at least you'll get some advertising. ;)

Thanks for the ISO 100 fix! I didn't know it had to do with HTP.

Yeah, I doubt it will either. At least the copyright is across the middle which makes getting rid of it very difficult.

I wasn't too bothered to start with but I started to put the photos on the club website as flash galleries which made things harder too. Then one of the lads screen captured a couple of dozen shots, cropped off the copyright mark and posted them on his facebook. One of the shots was a landscape shot of a view from the ground and that was the shot that annoyed me the most as it didn't have any players in it at all.

Did you say anything to him? It's a real pain, but people are so unaware sometimes, and don't even realise they are taking the P***!?! Saying that, if he went to the trouble of removing your watermark, it does show some understanding. You could always force Facebook to remove the images, but it's a lot of aggro when you have to play with these guys on a regular basis.

I have mentioned it actually and took the p*ss out of him yesterday and told him I'd put a big fat watermark right across the middle. He was actually apologetic about it.
