Couldn't get the grip at the same time, that is on back order!

Firmware upgrade first. Rob, any advice on what to configure, it being the 5D or just do my usual stuff?

Blinkin' weather, going to have to be a couple of garden plant shots first to make sure the mirror doesn't plop out :-)

Rammy, i assume that is a MkII? looking at the top controls it definitely looks right.

Config wise, i would definitely turn off all highlight tone priority and auto sharpening functions. Auto noise reduction should be turned off as well as it just makes things look soft.
Other than that you are ready to rock and roll.
Oh and activate extended ISO options, so you can play with ISO 50,6400, 12,000 and 21,000.

You can also set the AF-On button on the back to do the focusing for you and shutter release to only take the exposure and trigger the shutter if you like.

Thanks Rob, yep it's the MkII :-)

Looks like the usual stuff I've done on the 50D, apart from that extra high ISO ;-)a Thanks!

Do you have the High ISO noise reduction off as well? I have it off on 50D, do you know when does it kick in on the 5D, after 3200?

Yeah turn off high ISO noise reduction too -i assume you use photoshop/lightroom. Its much better to do it yourself rather than let the camera make everything soft.

Fingers crossed that your mirror is fixed in properly! ;)

Chris we must let our wives meet up to be lectured by yours on how we should be encouraged to spend more on cameras, lenses etc....

Can't bloody believe some f***** has sent an invoice to my buyer and now I have to prove I am the real seller. Fortunately my buyer has not parted with any funds yet

I've got a four seater sofa, so many nooks and crannies

The charger is on green! Right, lets see if we can f*ck up the mirror :-)

I have found HTP to do nothing to the image in any way. Turned it off, just in case it tries to do something when i have an important shot to make.

I cant see the point of many of these extras when you are shooting in RAW anyway.

Best thing i did on the camera was set up one of my custom modes to a "action mode" using AI Servo focusing, and the AF-On button to lock focus, leaving the shutter to just fire the shutter. No problems with accidentally firing off a frame whilst trying to track the subject.

I love the Custom modes - never got to play with those on the 450D.

Morning, sounds like a good trip Rob!

Morning Salma - you must be having your 3 hour sleep around now :)

I'm off to Thorpe Park today... Try out the new SAW ride

Myself, Lara, Lewis and Shell are off to Thorpe Park tomorrow. Haven't been for a couple of years so really looking forward to it. Fingers crossed that Nemesis Inferno will be open this time.;)
