Hey Rob, where did you get that 35mm film you mentioned the other day, and which did you get any B&W??

Look at this dude (external link), certainly not the best dancer I have seen but he gets it swinging

Mine is gay!! Won't hold shift key, no sound alerts what so ever and last time I plugged it into the PC it wiped everything!

Maybe I'm not understanding what you're meaning there, but the shift key on the iPhone won't "hold", you just press it once and then press what you want shifted and the shift will release.

I've been happy with my iPod Touch ever since I got it. Can't wait for next Wednesday to roll around!

Whoa! - I am very lucky today!

Last night one of my external drives was making a bit of a ticking noise. So i decided to go through the images on that drive, delete the crap ones and copy the others over to another storage drive. Usually i would be too lazy to do this, but since i am bored at home i thought what the hell.

I am bloody glad i did, because today, as i turned on the external drive it made a godawful screeching/crunch noise and refused to turn on, just continued to make a dull whirring/buzzing noise.

The drive is tottally Fu*ked. I just had a quick look inside it and the arm has scored a massive line accross the platters and the spindle has siezed :mad:

So, if your drives are making any wierd noises, back them up ASAP!

I am thinking of buying a Drobo now - http://www.drobo.com/products/drobo.php (external link)
Looks very easy to use - i would prefer a true NAS system, but i have no clue of how to set up or maintain a RAID 5 configuration.
Cue IT wizards to the rescue! ;)

you don't need to know about raid to have a NAS drive. I have a 1TB Buffalo Linkstation upstairs that I link to my network. Comes up as a shared drive when I have it turned on.

Hey Vic,

I bought my film from http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/default.php?cPath=777 (external link)
Very cheap and its all free delivery.

I bought Some Ilford Delta 400 for my B&W film as i like the look of the grain
http://www.lomography.com …e/films/reviews/871911584 (external link)
but the fuji neopan looks good too.

This is a pretty good list to through to see what different films look like:
http://www.lomography.com/magazine/films/list (external link)

But as i said before, allot of the colour films are cross-processed on there so they aren't true renditions of the film if you want to use them normally.

For processing the film i am buying my tank/chemicals from Silverprint. http://www.silverprint.co.uk/ProductByGroup.asp?PrGrp=1081 (external link)

B&W developing seems pretty easy and is MUCH cheaper than gettig it processed in a lab. Looking at lab prices i can make my money back on about 3 rolls!
You just scan the negatives onto the computer.

I would prefer something that has a bit of data protection if a drive fails - then i can store all my photos, music and films on it without fear of losing them. I have a Seagate Freeagent drive which is connected to the network, but its still only a single drive and i would hate to lose it contents.

Rob,
Some NAS devices can be easy to setup.

it's all about £££

I am currently running a simpled mirrod NAS box (ebay special £50) with 2 500Gb drives, but it's full!

Yeah. You can set the Buffalo to copy all of it's data to another USB drive connected to it. So you copy to the NAS and it will back up to the other device automatically.

For all those attending on Saturday / sunday. info be as follows

Right Guys and Gals

the meet up is still on for the weekend, and I will be doing two meeting times. The first is for the eager beavers that want to catch the sunset, which is due at 9:18pm, so I will be at the south side of the millenium bridge (aka outside the Tate modern) at 8:45pm.

From there I will then walk the early group down to the second meeting point, which will be at the base of the London eye at 10:15-10:30pm.

From here we will then go about Waterloo and Westminster for any strobist shots.

Sunrise itself will occur at 04:43am, however it will start getting light at around 3am.

This is when we can take advantage of mostly empty streets and almost daylight to get some really cool post apocalypse shots.

I'm open to suggestions as to what locations to shoot for this side of the shoot, however I myself am keen on Picadilly Circus and Trafalgar Square.

Some essential gear
Camera (Duh)
Good walking shoes (No tube at 1am!, this will be a lot of on foot work)

Some gear that may be useful
Tripod
Flashes
Light stands
Gobos / Snoots (these can be made from cereal boxes, PM me if you don't know what they are!)
Spare batteries
Cable releases
Wireless Triggers
Flash Gels
props / swap changes of clothes (there will be some modelling involved too!)

Hope to see you on Saturday night

Neal

Sounds good mate, I'll be on the early meeting.

Oh I've been advised around the back of Liverpool street should be good for some late night shots, as there is only office blocks less people around at the weekend (even at midnight it's gonna be fairly busy).

the 100 marco is also good for portraits but is a bit slow to focus but so is the 85 1.2L and people get by with it.

If you are going to do macro get the 100
