100mm Macro is great fun.
I did my droplet shots with it.
And occasionally put extension tubes on as well!

Having said that the 85 1.2 is also stunning, and I wouldn't get rid of either!

How much did he charge you, I can' make up my mind to go for this or 100mm macro in the near future, still paying off the 17-40 and got a holidy coming up!

£285 for the 85 f1.8

I have the Sigma 105 f/2.8 macro and that is nice but far too slow for normal use. Especially for anything moving - i get a 3/10 keeper rate for moving targets (i.e people milling around not standing exactly still)
For macro, it is excellent maybe 9/10 as long as the subject doesnt move - unlikely with insects.

The canon macro has faster focus than the Sigma, but it is still slow by normal standards. The one thing i prefer about the sigma is the recessed front element - i think if it was flush to the front i would have smashed it by now whilst chasing focus on bugs. :o

The 85 is also one and a half stops faster at 1.8 vs 2.8

I did mine with the Sigma 105 - i often put extension tubes and teleconverters on it for larger than 1:1 macros

Hmmm, I'm having an interesting email discussion with Triumph at the moment.

After not previously agreed dealings fell through this year, I'm running on a very reduced deal, only providing a few mimages for them to use on website/press releases. Any additional images will be billed as appropriate.

However after 3 rounds, I have just been asked if i can provide a high res image for michelin (our tyre provider) to use on a poster to go out to all dealers...

How much do I charge???
I have asked them to confirm wjat the distribution will be.

(This is the RM business end I am crap at!, in fact I'm poor at all this business end of the market)

I've not uploaded anything on there for a while. Waiting to sort monitors out before I do any more processing. Either that or I get everyone to calibrate to my pics

Whoa! - I am very lucky today!

Last night one of my external drives was making a bit of a ticking noise. So i decided to go through the images on that drive, delete the crap ones and copy the others over to another storage drive. Usually i would be too lazy to do this, but since i am bored at home i thought what the hell.

I am bloody glad i did, because today, as i turned on the external drive it made a godawful screeching/crunch noise and refused to turn on, just continued to make a dull whirring/buzzing noise.

The drive is tottally Fu*ked. I just had a quick look inside it and the arm has scored a massive line accross the platters and the spindle has siezed :mad:

So, if your drives are making any wierd noises, back them up ASAP!

I am thinking of buying a Drobo now - http://www.drobo.com/products/drobo.php (external link)
Looks very easy to use - i would prefer a true NAS system, but i have no clue of how to set up or maintain a RAID 5 configuration.
Cue IT wizards to the rescue! ;)

Most NAS boxes are simple to setup if you stick to a better brand as 90% is how intuitive the software is.
For RAID 5 you need a minimum of 3 disks and the total capacity will be the sum of 2 of them, the rest of the space holds Parity data that is used to rebuild the array if one drive fails.
Raid 1 is mirroring but you loose half the total capacity of the two drives.

I use a JBOD system (Just A Bunch Of Disks) all SATA II external and i use Win XP Pro built in Scheduled backup app to make regular backups of all my CR2 & TIFF files from one disk to another overnight (if you use Win XP that is)

1TB SATA II Drives are pretty cheap now and quick on SATA II and at 300Mb/s they are much quicker than Network NAS Boxes (unless you got Gigabit LAN at Home)

Hmm at FlickR
I setup an account a few months ago, and can find me, just can't log into the damn thing!

Even password/username recovery isn't working.

I want to use it for the Strobist assignments.

Any idea where to buy the black corrugated plastic on the highstreet though?

Only place i can find online is http://www.mdpsupplies.co.uk …me=Black%2032x24inch%20LF (external link)

and its £16.95 for a sheet of black 813x610mm (32x24 inch) which is rather allot. Unless someone wants to share the price on the materials and make one (or more!) too?
