came across this comment on Fredmiranda.... "I do not find that the standard VF screen makes it any harder to focus than my 5DII’s Eg-S. BUT the much improved AF is a game changer for MF! Now I haven’t had the time to micro-adjust my lenses, or to select the best AF configuration for my needs (essentially landscape). I just turned noise reduction off, and started shooting JPEGs to see if I could focus my MF lenses. And the result blew me away, because of the MF assist. The AF will focus even in an almost dark room. It will lead the camera in P mode to go for f:1.4, 1/80s and ISO 12.800 with my ZE 85, and the focus is spot on every time, something that was simply not possible on the 5D II."

Does this mean it will still be a problem to SEE what's in focus first? (sorry i'm only operating with the 7D atm)

Regnis, the problem remains because the standard focusing screen shows you larger DOF than there really is when shooting at large apertures. You totally rely on the focus confirmation.

I live on the west side of Colorado Springs and the orange glow in the background is 346 homes burning, it was a sad day in this town. :(

I can see that I am soon to purchase my first Ziess, but which one ...

From recent research, the lenses seem to pick up light in a very different way, the reflections seem to have a sheen to them like no other.

It's beautiful to see.

I have owned the ZE21, ZE50 MP and ZE100 - I loved them all. I had to part ways with all but the 21 for the time being, but Ill own the other two again some day. The build quality and ergonomics are fantastic and they do offer great image quality.

But, don't be fooled by all this Zeiss magic BS. They don't capture light differently and they don't make things that "are" look any different than another lens. They are very sharp and capture fine detail nicely, but you couldnt tell how much better they are at doing that from web sized images anyway. Any difference between ZE glass and Canon glass you think you see at web size is far more likely the result of an experienced photographer who knows how to handle their camera and post processing software than anything that has to do with Zeiss magic.

I own all 3. All very nice. Just look at which focal length you like best/ use the most.

I agree that there's too much talk about "the zeiss magic" on the internet. However, they do give a different look... if it's a better one is just a matter of taste.
I've owned most of the canon L primes up to 200mm and all I can say is that I like the results from my Zeiss lenses better.
We must be grateful that we have all these choices :)

I just bought this piece of glass second hand on a local forum for 800 euros. Couldn't be happier with this lens.
Just in time, because thursday I'm leaving for three week road trip in Scandinavia so this lens will get a lot of attention together with the 21 off course.

When I first tested this lens I was amazed with how difficult it is to focus coming from the 21. This is a point that I need to practice.

Sorry for the noob question, but does this lens comes with AF confirm with the Canon mount? That is, your focus point lights up when MFing...
