I need someones expertise in wireless internet connections.

I have the verizon wireless broadband connection via a PC card. I have never had a problem up untill 2 days ago. I dont visit sites that are shady or questionable. Im almost on the same several sites all the time for my camera stuff, model railroading, rail fanning and car/trucks. Now all of a sudden im getting popup's galore, non stop sometimes. I purchased lavasofts ad-aware and installed it, ran it and found nearly 100 items. I deleted what it found and all was good. But the minute i shut down and then re-log in i get everything again.

Im suspecting someone is hacking into my wireless broadband connection. How can I setup my laptop so if you find my signal it will say "security enabled" connection? This is the only thing i can think of is some jag off usign my signal and having crap on his computer. Similar thing happened to my wifes laptop and that is now a total waste of computer hardware as you can't use it at all
I don't wan this happening to my computer.

You have a dedicated Verizon Wireless broadband card. Nobody else is using your connection because your computer is connected directly to the card. There is no network to be hacked into. Safe browsing using a firewall, an effective anti-virus and programs like AdAware will help keep your system safe. This is another worthwhile addition. http://www.malwarebytes.org/ (external link)
Also using a safe browser like Firefox 3 with the pop-up blocker enabled will save you a ton of aggravation.

Agreed, I'm assuming you might be using IE. For what it's worth you could try Spybot Search & Destroy as well to try to clean the crud out, just make sure they don't target anything benign.

Firefox or another more secure browser will also save you a lot of the headaches.

thanks guys. i almost wasn't able to post this. i got bombarded with nearly 30 stupid popups. had to shut everything down and rerun the lavasoft adaware program. Im hoping I dont have a virus like that whole conflicker virus that was beeing talked about a few weeks ago. I just dont understand how out of nowhere this started.

To test for Conficker; go here.
Conficker prevents you from going to sites that can attempt to remove it. If you can see all the pix; you're not infected.

I used to love Ad Aware; but I now find Spybot better

I next suggest you try Trend's free Housecall scanner:
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ (external link)

Also the new Microsoft service OneCare:
http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm (external link)

They're all free.
You don't have to go to naughty sites to get a virus... but misspelling common site names like google or disney are easy ways for not so nice people to infect your PC.

Good Luck.
If you need more help after running these.. PM me.

On Windows, I always check my task manager (CTRL + ALT + DELETE) to suspect any spybots or ad programs running that installed itself w/o my permission.

Other than that, I would recommend a good virus scanner such as Avast Home (free) edition.

Generally when I clean up a PC I run Spybot, Adaware and CCleaner (external link). in that order.

On another side of this, if your network is not security enabled, you need to make it so ASAP. There is no reason not to have it secure, unless you like to share. Your manual will show you how to set it up and it is really easy.
