I have seen this lens for sale at cheapest used for about $125.

I have been trying to sell a one month old one on Craigslist, locally for $115 with the EW60c lens hood and Canon filter and I'm getting lots of harassing emails like I owe the lens to potential buyers for at least half that.

Am I crazy or is that lens worth more than 75 bucks?

Do you have it clearly labeled as the IS version?

I'm guessing that the harassing calls are from folks assuming that it is the original 18-55 non IS lens as well. Why someone would call to harass in the first place is beyond me.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.

The white-box version is going for $130 via Adorama, new for $170. $140 and $170 for white box & retail @ B&H as well. So no, $115 is not crazy.

It sounds like the potential buyers are just trying to force you to lower the price for them. Keep at it, and if it doesn't sell in another month or so, then you could try lowering it a bit.

OK, so I'm not crazy.

But this is:

I got an email from a guy saying that he dropped his 17-85 in a lake so he needs the one I'm selling but he refuses to pay the price I'm asking and he needs it before he goes to Africa so I really "should think about negotiating the price".

In how many ways is that just wrong?

does he want to send you the payment via money order and have his "service" pick it up?

If he is legit then give him your reasoning for the price and provide links to the new price. I had someone try to say I was overpriced but I provided the data and he came and bought it for my asking price later that day.

I again think they think it is not the IS version. I dont know which CL your on but the Chicago one has alot of the non IS version on it and people could just be assuming or not know about the IS version.

If he is low balling you, ignore his e-mails and move on.
If you aren't getting a lot of bites, then consider lowering your price.

Everyone's experience varies but personally, I'm not very fond of Craiglist, full of scammers and low ballers.

No, it's not one of those "warm regards" guys from some foreign country wanting to send me a check, I just threaten those guys with the fury of uncle sam internet law.

Craigslist does kind of suck, and then Ebay has the gray market pushers that are hard to compete with.

Thats why I never put my phone number on craigslist because it seems most people are just interested in telling you your prices are to high. In all reality most of them have no friggin clue what they are talking about

For instance I listed a 5D on there quite a while ago I had at least 5 people send me emails saying my price was way to high. So I started asking them compared to what? and then it became obvious they used google to find places that were scamming places. I sent them the links from reseller ratings and told them go for it and see what you get lol.

and then yeah you have all those idiots from another country with a story of how they need it so bad, they are a king, they have some dumb story lol

They are idiots, but it is entertaining at the same time. Sometimes I like to lead them on a bit and pretend to go with their story. Then defame them as frauds, of course.

I'm going to sell mine too, 115 is lowest Ill go, sell or don't sell. Mine is only 2 months old probably use like 10 shots and packed back for storage. So stick with your price or don't go under 100. You might as well do a bday gift to a friend rather then giving it to people for 90 and under. Also mine still has warranty. So if it is too definitely try untill warranty is over.

Yeah mine is only about one month old. I'm only selling it because I got a really good deal on a 17-50 f2.8 that I couldn't resist.
I don't know if the warranty carries over to a new user though.

you may want to repost it with a big sentence in the ad that says that it is specifically the IS version, and not the non-IS version. other than that, if you have a minimum price in mind, you will have to ignore the low ballers that try to get you below your self-imposed minimum price. everybody tries to low-ball... CL is just an electronic version of a flea market.

remember, you dont have to respond to the inquiries... i send inquiry emails all the time on CL, and i get a response maybe 25% of the time.

Warranty doesn't carry over. But if you give the buyer the receipt for prove of where you got it at then canon will accept the warranty. They're pretty cool, the one here in Cali, not sure about else where.
