Just a few duck shots - some cutie ducklings out and about recently :)
All shot with my drainpipe.

1) There's a mommy ducky:

Great shots. I love little ducks. I was just thinking on birds last night, and all the talk about them just being animals that can't think and don't have much intelligence. But they are smarter than we have ever given them credit for. Or I should say, smarter than science has ever given them credit for. They have emotions, they can learn new things, and they can count. Yes, count. Ever seen a momma duck with 14 babies, and one gets lost? Oh yes, she can count alright. More than some people can do. :)

Going by the news recently, she cares more for her babies than some humans do also.

Nice bunch... This would be worthy of a better position to avoid shooting them from above, IMO.

Some of the shots I didn't get were of this hen duck "defending" (and quite ferociously I might add) her babies from any other duck that even got close to her ducklings. She was all a flurry and snapping, I was quite impressed with her tenacity in protecting her children.

Funny you should mention that - as I was trying to get lower in the creek to get a lower angle, I slipped a little and nearly fell - and would have gone camera and all into the water... The noise I made scared the little ones halfway down the creek

I do agree, I wish I could take more duckling portraits but the mother seems to be hiding them for now and I haven't seen them in the last couple of days.

Thanks for all your comments!

Very nice shots of what spring is about... ours is yet to come, but the ducks are starting to arrive.

Live with a parrot for a couple weeks and this will become cemented in your brain. I swear my bird is smarter than me sometimes and he does understand when people are talking and knows what they are saying.

I see it all the time. I grew up in the 50's and am still struggling with the absurdity they taught us back then. Being so wrong for so long you'd think they would learn. HAHA.

Sharon, that would be funny if it weren't so sad. :)

You're right Mitch...I edited it out. It's what popped into my head when I counted 14 babies.
