I asked my girlfriend to help me out with some quick impromptu photos because I wanted to test some lighting with one strobe (flash) with my pocketwizards because I am doing a mothers day photo shoot this sunday.

Sun was at 11 o' clock from the camera. Flash was Sigma DG 500 Super with Pocketwizards at 4 o' clock.

I have seen some people get some phenominal DOF, but wondered if they brought the flash further back for the shots. Mine was about 5 feet from the subject. 1/1 power. Should I use a diffuser or umbrella to shoot through?

Tips and suggestions greatly appreciated for this weekends shoot.

1st pic I really like it's a little bit edgy and i like the black and white. 2nd looks a little bit hot you could try a shoot through umbrella to spread the light. But i'm no expert as i'm really new to all this but well done and keep it up.

I like what you did on the second one. I like the post processing and the lighting. Well done:)

Rained out. Had to reschedule - which I guess is a good thing since I had other things come up.
