So we went to DC for the Cherry Blossom festival last weekend and we were walking around the Ronald Reagan Trade Center, which is a new building. A lot of POTN members were also walking around, since I saw so many IDMKII and 1DsMKIIs that weekend, I was drooling.

In any case, here we are in this huge crowd gathered for the cherry blossom festival parade, and I spot this guy walking around with his girlfriend in one hand and this tripod on the other hand. I was wondering, why would this guy be carrying just a tripod, closed up, but legs extended, like it was a walking stick. I thought I had seen wrong and assumed it was a crutch or something like that. Later that afternoon, I spotted him with his "crutch" only to realize it was indeed a tripod. Attached to the tripod was this teenie tiny little camera. I almost fell over laughing when I saw him set up to take a photograph of something. I quickly zoomed in on him and caught him in his glory. He looked up at me and gave me a dirty look and I moved on. Bless him. At least his photos will be sharp!

Enjoy.

I don't follow?
Is he a goofball because he uses a tripod or because his camera is small?

I know it looks kind of odd but I have used the S50 on tripod quite a few times (time lapse, me in the picture too, panoramas, multiple exposures)

maybe because the camer is on the mount backwards.

I have used tripods with my sony DSC-S70 so I can't relate to making fun of him. tripods are useful.

Interesting comments. Goofball is a lovable term in my vocabulary. Sorry for the confusion. The reason I thought this guy was a goofball was because of the way he was carrying the tripod, not the way he was using his camera. He was carrying his big tripod fully extended with this little camera attached through an estimated crowd of 1,000,000 people that day. He really looked like a guy with an aluminum crutch.

I've done the same thing....used a tiny camera on a large tripod before, so I am a goofball too. :p

As for the camera, I think it is one of those Casio Exlim jobs.

Sorry for offending you. The guy did give me the dirty look when I took his picture, but I smiled at him. ;)

Nothing funny here...
I do that all the time...
those cheap cameras can provide quite good images when they are kept still for a while on a tripod...especially in the dark...not all of us can afford an EOS camera...

Come on, lighten up. I've done it myself, but that doesn't stop it from looking a little funny when the tripod head is bigger than the camera (on backwards at that).

Now, about grown men trying to emphasize a serious point with an emoticon....

:lol::lol::lol::lol: ROFLOL!

I won my tripod in an online auction.
When I went to pick it up I discovered it was brand new, and had never been used. The guy had purchased it when his son told him he would get him a digital camera. Expecting it to be something respectable he to got a cheap tripod to use. When his son showed up with his new camera it was something even smaller than the one above!:lol:

Iv walked around car show with my little A80 stuck on a tripod, never once got a funny look, and never had any trouble getting a clear shot of a car :p
