Unusual Project

I've been thinking about ways to add some life to my dorm room, and came across this on the internet while looking at pics of really expensive broken lenses.

I want to do that to a lens, and end up with a new pen/pencil holder for my desk.

However, I seem to be lacking the funds to do that to a current Canon lens. I was wondering if anyone could suggest to me a lens to buy to do this to.
I want it to be a Canon, so I've been looking into buying an old FD mount Canon lens. Does anyone have any suggestions. I have a budget of around $40 or so.

I've found several that look promising, but I'm still undecided.

hhahahaha yeah, I saw that a while back. pretty neat. I'd do that but all my funds go towards more glass, and pretty soon I'm gonna need some other peripherals!

you are looking in the right place (ebay) for this. unless you want to drop by some local pawn shops... another idea would be to talk with a nearby camera store that sells used equipment. let them know what you are looking for and see what you can get. another Idea would be put an ad on here in the buy section giving your specs. there is bound to be someone that has an FD lens with a very scratched front element that they want to get rid of, for cheap.

Some people have found cheap gear at local shops so have a look there. You never know what might pop up. If it's an EF mount, try it out before you tear it apart

eBay is not a bad route, but I'd also post a link on your local craigslist site - you might get lucky.
