Just testing how my DIY black straw gridspot would work.
Unedited photo, just reduced....

You literally make a bundle of drinking straws the same size as your flash, tape them togehter and spray paint the outside black.

The light is "focused" down the straws and stays in a relatively tight pattern.

I've done it just by wrapping cinefoil around the outside of a bundle of off the shelf soda straws that are readilly available in any supermarket.

I bought black straws from Smart & Final. Here's the link to the tutorial:

How significant is the result from the same snoot with and without the bunch of straws?

A.Tan, I like the picture.

I just build the one A.Tan linked to and I'm not totally sold. I also have a 12" snoot for comparison.

These pictures are from 10' away @ 1/250th. The wall on the left angles away from the camera.

The things I like about the 2" snoot are it's size, and that the light is pretty well controlled. The 12" empty snoot controls the light spill much better, and I can downsize the end to make the light "tighter".

Hope that helps,
dan

Sorry A.Tan, I found this thread the other day when searching for snoots. I thought this was in the lighting forum.
