Had the first day of events... Great fun, watching various types of cars practicing today.

There were the V8 Supercars, the NZ V8 Tourers, Bridgestone Porsche series, GT3 Porsche series, Formula Ford, and also the new Formula Toyota - open wheel, winged cars.

I have a lot of soft fuzzy shots. The 70-300 Sigma lens wasn't behaving like I want it to.
Used AV and TV modes, and shot approx 1/200th for most of them.

Day 2 starts in 12 hours. The actual racing will be on, and hopefully a few tangles to get some interesting shots, which aren't just in practice. :)

Very nice!

Now, before you go for day 2, have a look at all of the pro race shooters threads (I don't want to name them all incase I forget one :o ).

Your shots are damn good, but try and get a bit more of the track in, just to get more a of a feel for the race :)

So long and thanks for all the flash

Thanks for the comments Moppie.. You should come along.

My shots do include some surroundings, I only crop them tightly, to get more detail for 800 pixel images. :D

Here are some larger shots, approx 50% view each one.

Take a close look at both right hand tyres on the lead ford, I think he pushed a little hard ;)

Yes, I saw that. The first car was sharp, and I could see the tyres almost delaminating. :D

Have fun watching balloons. :)
There was a nice shot on the back of the Herald a couple of days ago, or a balloon mirrored over a lake. Nice photo.

LOL, thanks, it's my first attempt at circuit racing, and last weekend was my first attempt at a rally. :)

I'm usually just shooting landscape scenes, such as sunsets. Usually need a bit more patience, tripod, and a warmer jacket. :p

Thanks again. Off to the 2nd day shortly. V6Goose should be around. I'll see how wonderous his 100-400L goes again.

Great work. I agree that it is difficult to get the details you want within the size constraints. The larger ones look good.
I will be looking forward to your race pictures.

Bless the recently fallen and their family and friends.
I have a Cannon with me at all times. You can't take the shot if you don't have something with which to shoot.

Gidday Wazza/Guys...

Great day had by all at the V8's (as always)...

Didnt see ya Wazza... its not like there was any people there :D

The 100-400L performed pretty well, way better than the Sigma 2 years ago and better than the 500 prime last year. What!!?? The 500 is a great lens (borrowed) by far less practical and unweldy as the 100-400L - much better race lens :d

I had lots of fun catching up with the girls on the circuit, havent seen most of them since the Crusty Demons and the Jim Beam bikini jam... oh... i shot a few cars too...

Where were you Waz? I spent most of my time wandering both sides of the track shooting the ladies between races and behind the white portacoms infield, last bend of pit straight and furtherest corner... seemed to be the only clear shots of the track.

How did you get on for day 2?

Your still welcome to give the 100-400L a blat if your interested...

See you there tomorrow :d

The rest of you guys sing out too if you see me, see Waz's oh so flattering portrait in the airshow thread if you need to see what i look like...

See ya!

Goose

It was a good day had by all. This was the first time that I had ever seen the super V8's in action, man do they make the NZ v's sound week :)

I had managed to come away with enought photos, it's a shame I don't have any place to show them off.

However I wont be returning tomorrow. I will be interested to see the photos everyone else has managed to get
