Great shots, they both look very purposeful in those first two shots, that's a place I want to visit as well, is it open all year round?

Yes it is arty, but they go onto a reduced programme at the end of October. Make sure you have plenty of cards and batteries, I exhausted both batteries and filled all my cards, never happened before.

There is a web site, I don't have the URL at work but a search will turn them up.

If I have my captioning correct they are Tawny Eagle, African Fish Eagle doing a attack run for fish in a huge lake (actually a bit of chick in a small pond), Black Kite and I am fairly sure a Bald Eagle.

This is not news to me arty. It has always been like this. A little story.

About 25 years ago I was involved in an accident and subsequently charged with "due care and attention".

Basically when we went to court the prosecution case fell apart. All the prosecution witnesses stated the facts that made it clear I was not at fault.

Despite this magistrates went off for quite a long time and came back and said their was reasonable doubt, no ticking the police off for wasting court time and trying to make it up as they went along (oh yes they do that too when it is not going their way).

Back on topic, I asked my barrister if I could get costs if we one (my insurance company was paying but it was the principle). I was told, oh no you can't get cost against the police, they are only acting on information given.

After this I realised all this stuff about British justice being the best in the world, "innocent until proved guilty" is all, to be frank, b*****s. You are guilty until you prove your innocence, if you can.

I'm taking a bit of time off work this week and when I saw the forecast for yesterday was a strong southeasterly wind I thought I'd get down to the coast to shoot some wild seas. The problem with the Hampshire coast is there's nothing close by that's suitable (unless you're on the Isle of Wight), so I drove over to neighbouring Dorset to have a look around. My first plan was to drive to Lulworth and walk along West Coast Path to the Mupe Rocks, thinking there'd be some good waves crashing over them. Part way over the hills I found the path was closed as it crosses the Lulworth Ranges and there was to be live firing. Plan B was to look around Lulworth Cove, where I got some good shots.

The lighting was very poor so I was up around 1000ISO most of the time, and I was using UV filters to keep the spray off the lenses, but that spray was spoiling contrast and definition, so it was tough. I got thoroughly soaked too, but I was prepared for that.

Here's about the best out of over 200 on the day, looking across the mouth of Lulworth Cove. I've brought up the brightness and contrast from the original RAW.

To give a more realistic impression of the conditions I was shooting in, here's when I got nearest to the foam, converted straight from the RAW.

I can see what you mean about it taking all the contrast out, is a salt laden atmosphere a good environment for a camera.

I was wondering that, were you using any protective cover Madweasel?

...were you using any protective cover Madweasel?

No, just shielding it as much as possible. It was only right at the end that I got as close in as that last shot, and it was only a short while until the UV filter was getting quite badly sprayed so I stopped again. I did take a plastic bag to use, but never actually used it. I mopped the camera and lenses with a hanky on site, and gave the whole gear a good clean when I got home. It all survived! My gear was kept in a Lowepro Nova 4 bag, with the all-weather cover on most of the time.

I hope all stays ok for you, but salt water sometimes causes problems some way down the line.

I wonder if you could improve those shots by taking a lot of the scatered blue light out, try a click balance on some of the White water, assuming you are shooting raw of course.

Finally processed my shots on the 20D from the Hawk Concervancy Trust near Andover, been meaning to go there for ages, well worth a visit.

Hoping to go back with my shiny new 7D weather, work and family commitments permitting.

Your shots are well beyond what i have achieved at the Hawk Conservancy! I only live 5 mins away and try to get there quite often but i have found it really hard to get anything other than the static shots!!!

70D + 18-135mm
Stolen (But not forgotten): Canon 50D and Tamron 17-50mm 2.8.
Given to Daughter: Canon 55 - 250mm
In Bag: Canon 100-400L

Thanks Nevtiger, looking at your lens list it may be lens speed and or AF speed that is your problem.

I was using mostly the ef 200 2.8L II or ef 300 f4L IS.

Even with these lenses I had plenty of misses.

I can recommend both lenses, but if you are looking for value for money the 200mm is very good.
