Some good stuff there, doc, can't help with ID's though bugs are not my strong point. What lense were you using?

Hi all

Nice moon Ken

Jon I like the B/W PP (are they dust spots in the sky on the 2 plane shots ? or is something to do with the processing )

Doc great start in the world of macro
ID I think they are
1 Demoiselle Damselfly (male)
2 dolichopodid fly
3 large red damselfly

I find F9 to be fairly good up to F11 any higher and you start to lose sharpness
with the light not being very good at the moment a flash is quiet handy just put a cheap diffuser on it (kitchen tissue will work )
Colin

Went out to see if I could get some more peregrine shots, but they were a no show, but "Memphis Belle flew over as I was leaving so took a grab shot, pretty hefty crop.

I checked the original, and no spots on that, so must be a processing thing,

And what a cracking catch Ken. Where was it flying?

A lovely Elephant Hawkmoth emerged in my garden today and sat all day in the sun to harden off its wings, giving me ample opportunity to get a good shot.

I did a closer shot of a single wing to show the delicate colours. The detail on the full size image from the 5DII is amazing.

Later still we watched it exercise its wing muscles for a while, then take its first, slightly clumsy, flight. A very impressive insect.

Mark.

Nice shots, had one here a few years back beautiful creatures. Some sad news, it's been confirmed the Peregrines have abandoned the nest at Paulsgrove.

Great-looking caterpillar Ken. Looks like it's the Mullein moth, Shargacucullia verbasci.

Good find Ken.

You should see if you catch the pupation and emergence.

Here's another amazing moth I found on the kitchen ceiling late last night. It's a Phoenix moth, Eulithis prunata.
