Have a good trip Richard.

Well, as promised, here's my first go at photomicrography. It's a water flea at about 100x - I think it's about 0.5mm long. Sadly it took me that long to set this up he'd dried out and died, which is how come his insides have sort of spread out. Sorry mate! I'm still finding the best way to do it, but this sort of result is already pleasing in terms of quality. Apparently I need a photographic eyepiece, but this was done with a visual one. I've corrected a bit of chromatic aberration in Lightroom.

Ken,

We had the Tornado most of the way, with a switch to a Diesel at Westbury on the way back.

Lovely puffin shots Doc. I've taken lots in the Hebrides.

I've been playing with Photoshop some more and have just completed a panorama that I shot on the G9 on a visit to US in April. Photoshop will automatically blend images together, but it finishes up looking like a fisheye shot, so I used the "Adaptive Wideangle" tool to straighten out the lines and make it look like an ultrawide shot. Some of my lines are still not perfectly straight, but it's pretty near the way I wanted it. I had to do some clever tricks to allow for the parallax effects of doing a handheld 3-shot panorama when there's such a lot of depth to the shot. Then I finished it off with fairly contrasty processing of the finished blend. It's the Second World War Memorial on The Mall in Washington, D.C. The Lincoln Memorial is in the distance.

Great shots Mark I like the microscope shot of the water flea and your panorama is great I have found as you say the blending curves the shot but your work on this shot has paid of

Great puffin shots Doc love the head shot with all the fish (great detail )

Colin

PS

Here are a couple from farligton last night seems very little over there at the moment

Bad news about the leg still holding you back Ken. Get well soon!

A week ago I found a weevil on my porch step. Naturally I had to go and get my camera. With this 3/4 angle I had to take 13 shots with the MP-E65 to cover the full depth. I stacked them manually in Photoshop (I really must get a copy of Zerene Stacker) to get this result, which I'm pleased with.

That's an amazing shot, when you consider the size, not sure I'd have the patience to fiddle about with focus stacking.

Blimey - Weevils, Voles, Puffins etc - a right mixed bag of stuff going on. Brilliant shots, all of them.

Sorry to hear about your leg, Ken - hope you are now well on the mend?

I saw this old JU 52 fly over last weekend, & presume it was to do with Goodwood Revival meet.

We also had Sir Richard Branson attempting (and succeeding) in getting a world record for getting 318 kitesurfers on the water at once.

Stopped & chatted, posed for a few shots before moving on - A very approachable chap.

Here's another star photo I took last week. I've tried different ways of processing it and this version I made today is the best I've got. It's a part of the milky way that's overhead round about 10pm. The bright star near the middle is Deneb in the constellation of Cygnus. Just below Cygnus is the North America Nebula, named for its shape.

The shot is made from 12 30-second exposures at ISO1600, 70mm, f/4 on the 7D. More details here.
