Some wonderful shots there Richard.
So you prefer to use a ball head rather than a gimbal with the 600?

Lester,

The gimballed 200-400 I got to use at the Canon "do" was easy to use, but then so is my monopod which I am well used to. No doubt the tripod/gimbal was a steadier support.

I did not try either of the primes (a 400 and a 500) offered, simply because they had been grabbed by others before I arrived! There was no 600, so I was unable to compare.

So you were impressed by the new 200-400 then but not £8,000 impressed :-)

Exactly!

Edited to add: Just sold my old film Eos-3, power battery booster and 16-35L II USM lens that I never use for the vast sum of £550. Also added another Red Arrows shot using that expensive 200-400L! I've gone over the top with the sharpening of the jpeg, luckily I have not been so heavy handed with the TIFF.

Hi Guys - sorry not been around - far too busy for any photography of late.

Just a quick heads up - Both Lancaster Bombers are at Goodwood revival again today - flight time 1130.

Not sure whether to risk heading to the Trundle and face 1 1/2 hour traffic jam or not - Chances are they may come over here as they are also appearing at Bournemouth to make up for the no show at the end of Aug.

Unfortunately I'm off to Frimley shortly after that so won't have time to go and shoot. You could try the back route to Chichester and cut up to West Stoke then cross over the A286 at Mid Lavant. That's the way I went last year to get to the field below Goodwood to shoot the Red Arrows and dodged all the traffic.

OK is anyone going to buy a 7D2 then ? specs look interesting, though a bit disappointed it doesn't have a swivel screen, would make low shots easier at my age! I'll certainly be waiting to see what real world images from users are first and how the AF system shapes up.

I am sure I will upgrade Ken, must be getting high on the shutter count on the 7D, the AF and centre focus to f/8 looks worth having and the price is competitive.

Lots are complaining no swivel screen or no WLAN, does not bother me. The WLAN on the 6D is handy for low level tripod work using the iPhone as a remote control, but it is not a deal breaker. The swivel screen no thanks, not robust enough.

I will not preorder this time though unless the 7D suffers a problem, I let a few run off the line first. TBH the Finacial director has allowed quite a bit of kit recently, plus breaking my specs plus new tyres on the car etc, worth cooling it for while.
