Even worse for me, I just spent the week in Noordwijk, The Netherlands stuck in meeting rooms. When walking from the hotel to a restaurant in the evening the wind of the North Sea was cutting. Between that and talking solid for four days I have almost lost my voice.

Wishing you better.

It's gone very quiet in here. I must admit, the change in format is still slowing me down, plus I've been very busy lately, but yesterday I finally got myself over to Arundel, which I've been meaning to do all year so far. Not knowing what it would be like I took both 600/4 and the 100-400. Here's a selection of my best of the day. The small birds were mostly shot on the branches around the feeders. I was lucky to catch a Peregrine as it flew over, and also to grab a shot of the Water Vole from the electric boat tour, both with 100-400 on 7D. The kingisher was quite distant, so is a fairly severe crop from the original 400mm framing.

Lovely shots Mark, the vole is particularly nicely done.

I was up there a few weeks back when the water was frozen and managed a couple of snaps of the Kingfisher and my first captures of a Water Rail, it was a good day as they were both firsts for me.

Would have liked to have got down this weekend but I have a flu/cold that just will not give up.

Lovely set Mark.

Your lurgy sounds rather like mine Ken, hope you shake it off soon.

Hi all - Lovely shots Mark / Lester - Water rails do tend to hide pretty well in the reeds etc, and I've been fortunate to see one in a local tidal ditch - must admit to having to look twice to realise what it was.

Also, mill pond at Langstone I once saw a water vole, which just appeared out of the reeds completely unphased by my presence, and was able to watch it or a few minutes before it made off. Not seen one there since of course!!

No photo contributions from me - In fact I don't think I've shot anything at all this year, apart from a few photo's on Saturday at a 21st Birthday party - not good eh!!

Would someone please remind me what I should do to tape the pins on my 2x converter and whether that would help the lens AF, even if in only a limited way, with the converter in place.

We visited Landford lakes a couple of days ago and without a word of a lie, none of my shots were properly focused. I am also struggling to get decent shots of birds feeding in our garden and seeing the amazing shots shown here shames me!

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Richard

I had a go at taping the pins on my Sigma 150-500 when I had it, never successful in focusing, so went back to mandraulic when using a TC. The answer is a 7D2 then you get f8 focussing :-)

Just finished making my solar filter assembly to fit over my telephoto's lens hood ready for the eclipse on Friday. Tried a quick test in between the clouds this morning.
