Ken, hope your knee soon recovers.
Andy, ha ha, I actually got some knee and elbow pads of the sort used by skateboarders, but the straps are a bit tight - might need to adjust those - but it was comfy on my knees and elbows!
Here are some of the shots I took - I'll put a few more in the macro section.
1. A Knot Grass moth caterpillar
2. Some of the hairs on its back
3. A nursery web spider
4. A fruit fly, trying to dislodge an unwelcome hitchhiker
5. Some of the smallest inhabitants of my garden that I've photographed - two springtails (still trying to find out if they are colour variations or different species) and a tiny red mite, all on the corner of the vertical post of my compost bin. These creatures are just moving dots to the naked eye.
All of these shots were handheld, mostly with the MP-E65, using a 430EXII flash on a bracket and using a home-made diffuser. The next day I went back to the compost bin post corner with the heavy gear - the MP-E65 on a focus rail and two flash guns with diffusers - and concentrated on the tinies. I'll post some of those next time. It's funny to think how much time I've spent watching tiny life in and around my compost bin!
I only just noticed in my haste to post these that I didn't get rid of the dust spots. Those in the last one show how critically small the effective aperture is when you're up at 5X with the MPE-65. This was at an indicated f/11 (effectively f/66), but the next day I got sharper shots by going to f/7.1 or f/6.3 or so.

Incidentally I'm selling my Satnav as the new wheels has it built in if anyone is interested.
