Okay I shoot birds and wildlife, so this is my first real attempt at landscape. I am looking for comments and critique. I enjoy being out in nature so I would like to become competent at landscape photography.

Cades Cove - Great Smoky Mountain National Park, sunrise on Easter Sunday.

Canon 1D MarkIII - Canon 17-40 lens
ISO = 400
Shutter = 1/250
Aperture Priority (AV)
f/20
34mm
Hitech .6 GND filter

Thank You

great shot!! I agree about the grainy part, but maybe its just cause you decreased the quality to attach it?

awesome composition, love the pic.

did you do any post process work on it? looks like you tried to pull out some detail, which created a lot of graininess, white glow around the trees and mountains and an artificial look in the clouds. what program are you using?

Lovely location.

IMO, grab the top left corner and pull it in some. It will take just a little sky off the top and eliminate the little chunk of tree protruding in from camera right. It will also anchor the big tree more solidly in the corner and put the fence line right in the corner.

I'd also try adding a little more saturation.

I really like this. I agree about the tree on the right, but I like the grain and low saturation. It gives it a hazy look typical of the Smoky Mountains.

Thanks for the comments and ideas. FlyingPhotog ... I agree with your idea, thanks for the suggestion.

Mikerault .... this location is not near any of the cabins. It is really only a few hundred yards into the cove. I live 15 minutes from the Townsend entrance to the park.

Thanks everyone ... much appreciated.
