Is there anywhere that sells knockoff Canon lens hoods on the net. I won't buy from ebay but there has to be somewhere else.

The Canon shades are way overpriced.

Adorama and B&H both sell knockoff hoods, but their pricing isn't that great.

Example: Canon ET-60 for the EF-S 55-250.

Adorama: Canon = $22.50, Housebrand (external link) = $18.
B&H: Canon = $23.95, Pearstone (external link) = $18.

www.dealextreme.com (external link) They're HK-based, and have very good prices on the knock-offs with good quality. They also have other inexpensive accessories such as bubble levels and corded shutter releases, lens covers with center pinch release, etc.

While I think the Canon hoods are ridiculously priced for a piece of plastic, you get your money back when you go to sell it (if you sell it).

The only authentic Canon hood I have is for the 28mm f1.8 and it has a felt-like material on the inside to reduce reflections (I guess). None of the knockoffs I own have that material. I don't know how much it matters.

The idea of the hood is to reduce glare, and if the knock-offs don't have this felt material lining the inside to prevent reflection, that would be a major problem for me. I haven't ever bought a knock-off hood from a HK supplier, so I don't know how they're made. I would email Deal Extreme and ask them about the felt.

Not all the Canon hoods have the felt though. The hood for my 55-250IS (EW-60 hood) is 100% plastic, no felt or any non-reflective material on the inside.

Deal extreme is knockoff heaven. But, waiting up to 6 weeks to get your order makes buying from them a mixed bag. Just dont expect much in the way of speed or service and you'll do fine.

Right and wrong. I have that hood in front of me, the ET-60, and it is textured on the inside. There's no felt, but the plastic is a bit rough and flat in color, as oppose to smooth and slightly reflective on the outside.

With all due respect, I only had to wait max two weeks to get several individual orders from them.

???

I purchased many items from dealextreme. The quality is decent on some stuff but make sure you read the reviews. I bought a hood for my 17-85 ($10) which seems ok but you can really see the difference when you put it beside the real Canon hood from my 17-55 ($50). I've also received some stuff within a week or two and other times it's 4-6 weeks.

I bought an adorama brand hood once. It didn't fit quite right but they had no problem with the return and sent out the canon brand right away.

I haven't tried ordering from maxsaver or dealextreme but I probably will try that for the next one I need.
