I've had very bad experience with this service centre in trying to get my 70-200 L series is lens repaired.

Has anyone else had problems? Basically they gave a quote which subsequently got almost doubled for reasons which do not seem to correspond with the work actually carried out.

Canon have kindly agreed that I need not deal with them anymore and I have come to the conclusion that the Borehamwood service facility is the way forward.

I had the exact opposite ... very good service, price charged actually cheaper than quote, and did a great job. Prices for Canon gear have risen a lot this last couple of months so possible your quote and work overlapped price increases.

I think it's important to recognise the difference between a "quote" and an "estimate".....I suspect that you may have received the latter and took it to be the former.
