Do I need to fit a filter to fully complete weather sealing with a 16-35/2.8L-II, 24-70/2.8L and 70-200/2.8LIS fitted to a 1D3? I did try looking at Canon's Lens Work document and EF lens product site and also ran a search on POTN but could not find confirmation one way or the other.

As far as I can judge I do not need to fit a filter, but I would not like to learn that I am mistaken, the hard way. Thanks.

Not sure on the 70-200, but on the 16-35L yes, at least according to Canon.

Try to think. It helps.
Is there any space between the front element and the outer cylinder of the 70-200 and the 24-70 ? Can air or water get in there ? Can this be prevented by installing a filter? :)

So?

Now do the same observation test with the 16-35. That one is different.
