Like most orb weaving spiders, they are harmless and have very low venom toxicity. I have been handling them since I was a small child. Some locals call it a crab spider even though it is not Thomisidae. Many also believe them to be venomous or poisonous because of their shape and coloring. Any spider with the organized and pretty orb web shouldn't be dangerous even if it bites. However, they will try to flee before attempting to bite something larger than themselves. You can find my young daughter and I handling a much larger orb weaver in the folder linked below if you would like to view some snapshots.

I did look at the folder you gave to me. The spider in the lower left corner which you named "Owww!" is HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ![]() Yep, but he doesn't bite that hard unless there is a sheet between him and I. I have never been bitten by a spider that I handled. Only once a selenopid bit my foot when I stepped on its leg. Absolutely nothing happened, but a pinching feeling as it knawed until I released its leg from under my toe.
