Canon 40D - 70-200mm F/2.8

Last weekend, my first time really trying out the 2.8 I struggled.
Last night I think went well, all except the fact I put the camera away way too early.

There are no adjustments to these, just crop and sharpened for web...suprisigly I liked them SOOC.

Here are a few of the shots.

...I tried to clone out the coach but I didn't do a good job so I left him for now...but I think I am going to try again.

I was on the wrong side for the right handed pitchers, but I found I liked these ones, do they work for you?

....how about some catchers?

...a nice bunt here... too bad the 3rd baseball had to play back because of the force... there was no way the pitcher could have gotten it. Even though he hasn't thrown the ball yet do you think it displayes enough action?

I'm going to show some batters in another thread, because I have a question to go along with it. Hope you don't mind me making 2 threads and I hope I haven't added too many photos.

I am always opened for CC. I have tough skin, it's the only way I am going to learn. I just ask that if you CC that you please help me correct the issue.

Thank you in advance.

Pretty good! Plays at plate are great. Don't worry about coach...he is part of the game and is really not all that noticeable anyway. Correct your horizons in post processing as many are off. Pitcher shots from that side are OK since you caught them with part of face showing. You can also wait for their follow through as well as get some good shots of them as they look in toward plate. Catcher shots don't do much for me...need more of their eyes visible (especially in first) and more action in their throw (second) as I am pretty sure this is just a toss back to pitcher. Try and capture when he is making a throw to second or another base. On your last shot, a frame or two earlier when he is fielding ball, or a frame or two later when he is in his throwing motion, may have made a better shot, but it looks like you got good focus. What I would do, is simply crop in tighter on the fielder only (lose the runner) and make this more of a "sportrait" of him.

Yeah, my horizons are way off, wow. I didn't pay much attention to that before. I'll fix them.
The first catcher shot he closed his eyes as he caught the ball. Maybe I should have snapped a frame or two more after.
The last one I actually did do 2 different crops. I also did a vertical crop of just him. I decided to keep the player in one, to kind of show the play, so it tells a little of the story. I did get another shot of the throwing motion but it was out of focus so it was a tosser.
Thanks again for the CC.

I think you were right to shoot the pitchers from the 'wrong side' given the very strong lighting from that direction. If you had shot them from 3rd base side they would be in their own shadows.
