Yesterday, I thought I go down to the Baylands for the nesting show at the rookeries there. I'd heard that the Egrets had not shown up yet this year, but that there were still Night Herons there. That was a few weeks ago, and I hand' heard any reports recently. I had hoped that the Egrets had finally showed up, but figured that at the least, I would have a nice opportunity to photograph nesting night Herons. The drive to the Baylands is 3 hours, and I wanted Golden Hour light for this. However, when I got there, there were no Egrets, and even worse, all of the Night herons that I found were in one Eucalyptus tree that afforded no good views or lighting.
Still, there are always shorebirds to be found at the Baylands, and I tried to make the best of a disappointing day, at least getting to photograph a number of different species in good light. Here, in no particular order, is a smattering of what I brought back
As always, EXIF is intact, and C&C is appreciated.
1. Marbled Godwit - reflection
2. Ring-necked Pheasant
3-5. Black-necked Stilts
6. American Avocet - breeding plumage - reflection
7. An unfortunate image of a male Anna's Hummingbird that is sadly cut off - still like the colors though.
8. House Finch - male
