Anyone have any ideas on what lens has the widest zoom range for the 5D. I know of the 28-300mm IS 3.5-5.6. Is there any wider than 28mm, like the 18-200 that will work with the 5D? I know of the 16-35 but am looking for a stronger zoom.
Thanks Dave

Any EF lens will work with the 5D it's the EF-S lenses that don't work. So any EF lens out of the Canon list will work fine it's just finding the zoom range that you want. For a lens that has a crazy zoom range Tamron just came out with a 18-270mm I know nothing about it more then it exists.

Canon EF mount superzooms:

EF 28-200
EF 28-300L IS

There is also the discontinued EF 35-350L.

There is nothing wider than 28mm that reaches longer than 105mm.

While the 18-200 seems like a broader range, it isn't. The lens is EF-S, so it cannot be used on anything but 1.6X. On those bodies it gives the same angle of view range that a 28-320 zoom would on FF.

He's looking for a "superzoom" that will work on his Full frame body. Only options that I know of is the insanely expensive Canon 28-300L, and the much more affordable Tamron 28-300 VC. AFAIK, there is nothing that starts wider and zooms out that far. There is the 24-105mm. Anything that starts below 20mm will have an very limited focal range such as the 16-35 and the 17-40.

You need to realize that 18mm on a Full frame is MUCH wider than 18mm on a crop body. 28mm on a Full frame gives you the same FOV as 17.5mm on a crop body, so if you're used to a 18-200 superzoom on a crop, you'll be happy with a 28-300 on full frame.
