Gorgeous shot!

S.E.V. wrote in post #8169226 (external link)
Here is one more image i did using the FlexNR v1.3(the original release). Had to shoot this at an ISO of 3200 this morning. No in camera High ISO noise reduction. Shoot in RAW, ran through LR exported as tiff, 16bit, colorspace: ProphotoRBG, no compresion. Ran the 3200isoLR action and this is what i got I cropped 100% from the original to show the big diff between the images.

I really like this particular sample, because of the tonality-range trapped in in the moist NOISY areas (the mid-low dark grays), which appear relatively noisy at ISO3200 and beyond.

Nevertheless, I have the sincere impression that you can still do even better, and maybe with less steps.

I would really like to take this gorgeous image as an example for everyone to see how to keep your workflow tight and efficient, while maximizing image quality along the way.

Even though I am now in a business trip, overseas, and I will be returning to the U.S. on Friday, afternoon, I would sincerely appreciate if you would send me this file at ixmantra@myacc.net (external link), via www.yousendit.com (external link) or any other means you prefer.

If you agree, I will post a mini-tutorial, here, step-by-step, for everyone to follow and execute, and as simple and efficient, as possible.

There are some nice surprises in-store with FlexNR-v2.0. I will show some of them, if this particular sample lends itself to enjoy such improvements.

Cheers,

PIX

Not a problem PIX it is the least I can do for all you have done. I am sending the image right now. I am curious to see the outcome of this when PIX has a hand at it.

I already take for granted the ability to use any ISO on my MKIII now without a second thought.

Only 2 years ago, using my MKII, I would use ISO1600 knowing that I was unable to do a whole lot of post processing, definitely nothing like shadow/highlight tool adjustments. ISO3200 was a last resort, and I knew that the colour would suffer severely, in addition to the noise and "white spec" probem.

When I got the MKIII, I bumped up everything above 1 stop... shooting ISO3200 with some hesitation, and using ISO6400 as a last resort. With Pix's FlexNR, I now shoot ISO3200 as freely as I would ISO400 a couple years ago, knowing I can process the bajeezus out of the image with no worries. ISO6400 now feels like ISO800 used to. That's a 3 stop advantage!

Can someone help?

Well the link is still on page 1 fist post but it is disabled. You are gonna have to wait till PIX decides what to do with v2.0. I don't know if he would be willing to e-mail it to you or not. That is totally up to him to decide. You snooze you loose, as the saying says.

Here is SEV's Hawk @ ISO 5000ec (!)

S.E.V. wrote in post #8170912 (external link)

...Well, here's what I did:

1. Imported in LR and converted to 16bit .TIFF in ProPhotoRGB by dialing:

a. Assigned Lightroom preset provided in FlexNR.
b. Dialed +0.70ec, Blacks=3, WB=5000, and Vibrance=50.
c. Set Noise Reduction and Sharpening to ZERO.

2. Opened 16bit TIFF in Photoshop and ran "ISO-5000ec-LR".

That's it.

1. Here is the overall result (all converted to sRGB), at 800x1200, after conversion with minimal sharpening for web-display:

IMAGE: http://www.pbase.com/feharmat/image/114312240/original.jpg

2. At 50%, before and after, from Photoshop:
http://www.pbase.com …/image/114312241/original (external link)

3. At 100%, face, before and after (notice 99% of ultra-fine detail virtually intact):
http://www.pbase.com …/image/114312242/original (external link)

4. At 100%, ACID TEST, direct mid-section samples of FEATHER detail, before and after (FlexNR's precision and tuning):
http://www.pbase.com …/image/114312243/original (external link)

Remember folks: this is at ISo5000ec (3200+0.70ec), and NO SHARPENING set in Lightroom (of any kind).

Talk about a true testament of the phenomenal potential that the EOS 1D MarkIII lends, on this very challenging scenarios.

If I have time, I will try even finer results with DPP, since FlexNR v2.0 fully supports DPP, up to ISo6400.

Enjoy,

PIX

Oh wow!
I'm going to have to figure out the OSX aspect in the holidays, I am sadly thinking not due to the version difference, the profiles open, but I don't know if they work as well since I can't integrate into the action or do it on largeish files until I pony up (more a time thing ATM) :)

O Snap PIX, awesome job. I will try your step to see what I come up with.

Thanks

You could follow Drisley's advice, as well...

...Once dialing my conversion parameters, you could (right before convesion) set Chroma NR=10 in LR, for instance (while leaving everything else in ZERO, as I stated).

That is if you desired to remove down to the last chrominance speckle out of the file... but it does come with a minor impact on global saturation (such as the OOF areas behind the hawk, which carry very, very low-frequency areas of naturally-occurrying colors, etc.)

This link as amazing, the detail you kept is outstanding. You've really developed quite a product!

Now, for once I couldn't disagree with you more Pix!
This is a true testament of the phenomenal accomplishment your FlexNR action is! YOU get 90% of the credit, I give Canon 10%. :p

Btw, I still giggle when I see pictures like that... being able to shoot above ISO3200 and get buttery smooth bokeh, and so much fine detail, it just makes me so happy!
