I am purchasing an Imac this week (yay!!!). I am wondering if the software that came with the camera - Canon EOS Utilities, Digital Photo Professional, etc. is going to work on the new macs.

I have never owned a Mac before so this is going to be a huge learning adventure - and I plan on using it solely for photography/editing, etc. So I will be purchasing CS4 - but I need to edit my raw files, will the CS4 have a raw converter or will I be able to convert raw to jpeg without the Canon software???

Sorry if this doesn't make much sense, I'm tired.

You might want to try Lightroom or Aperture before buying CS4...

Though CS4 is handy to have as well for sharpening..

The answer is yes you should have no problems however :3 just download the updated version of Canon EOS utilities and etc..

The CS4 RAW converter works fine on my Intel PowerBook to convert my 1D and D30 and D60 files. Couldn't guarantee 30Ds but see now reason why it wouldn't work.

Yes. Make sure to run the automatic update from bridge once you've installed CS4.

All Canon software is MAC compatible. No worries there.
About learning the MAC. At first you'll think  but if you hang in there for just a day or two everything starts to make sense and it will be all :D

Have fun with your iMac.

i actually dont use any canon utilities or dpp...

i just hook up my 30d then pull it into iphoto for the most part.

and if i need to do editing or processing or converting of any sort i just click and drag all my files right from my 30d and drop them right into lightroom.

Photos are photos. I'd recommend doing RAW conversions in Adobe Photoshop or Lightroom. I personally love Lightroom for RAW conversions. Anything extra fancy, I export to PS.

Cheers! I love my iMac 24". Only complaint is that it burns my eyes from being too bright. You can use a program that "shades" it down (search for Shades).
