I was perusing the shelves at my local Harbor Freight today, I'm about to go to Big Bend, so I needed a few cheapie things...
While I was there, I happened across this thing, it's a gun mount to be used on a small limb to steady your shot, and I thought, "That would probably work really well with a walking stick, or pole".
(Some of the guys in the Macro section use "bean poles" to steady their macro shots, and I use one too, and this is really why I bought it)
For a long lens that isn't IS, this would be beneficial, and like I said, the macro shots this will be exactly what I have been looking for.
I got out my walking stick, (a stick I found in Oklahoma on a trip once) and attached it, it works perfectly, I haven't taken a shot with it, but I know it will work fine.

Anyway, if you are like me and use something other than a monopod sometimes, or are caught in a situation where you don't have a monopod or a tripod, this will be good to have, and it's relatively small too.
(This only attaches to a stick (or?) that is about 1-1/2" or so, maybe smaller, but it's still useful.
The area where your lens would rest has a neoprene rubber piece that is the perfect fit for a 100-400mm IS L lens, and smaller lens too, of course.

This is a quality piece, it's plastic, but it's made very well, it's very small and will fit in a bag with no problems, and I definitely recommend it to those that might need something like this.

Locally it was $19.99, (plus tax) but online it's $16.99, (no tax) but you do have to pay shipping, ($6.99, the only bad part about this) but still, it's not too bad for what it is.

I looked online a little, there are other places to buy, all about the same price and shipping though, or the total would be similar anyway.

I hope this helps some.

Thanks for the info, looks like something that might need to be added to the backpack

Looks like a nice thing to mount onto a nice and light carbon fiber telescopic hiking pole!

You're welcome, it would be a good thing to add I think, or added, in my case, I can't wait to try it out in the real world. :)

I need to look into that next, that sounds like it'd be a good thing to have with this.
That's a good idea.:)

Excellent point. My wife and I have several hiking poles that would do a fine job with something like this. Leave the monopod at home, hike lighter, and use the clamp only when you need to. :)
