I wasn't sure if these belong in this section, so if they need to be moved please do so.

Some friends of mine and I decided to go out Sunday and burn up some gunpowder. Since I hadn't played around with my 50mm f/1.8 in a while I thought I'd take it out and shoot at f/1.8 to try to catch the spent casings flying through the air. The conditions were horrible, but I thought these turned out okay considering.

Would it be fast enough to catch the bullet? I don't even know.

Nice job. I agree that 1 & 3 are the best due to the shooter being in the picture.

Its moving in the area of 750 feet per second, which is pretty slow for a bullet, but still pretty fast for someone trying to catch while pushing a shutter.

Nice pictures, especially the first.

Thanks everyone.

I'm sure it's possible to capture the bullet coming out of the gun. I have seen pictures of the shot from a shotgun shell right as it is breaking a clay target. I have also seen some shotguns shells that were hunting loads where the camera had caught the shot. These shells were 3.5" BB with a velocity of 1550fps.

The first photo showing one casing ejecting and the new round be loaded is great. I'm also jealous of the SA 1911 you all were shooting, I'm unable to purchase new ones in my home state.

I did not try those settings. We're going back out in a few weeks to do it again. I'll try them out.

That 1911 is a very nice handgun. The fit and finish is great and it is very smooth. I feel bad for you all across the way that don't have the gun laws (or lack of) like we do here in the U.S. Target shooting is one of my favorite things to do and I don't even want to think about not being able to do it anymore. I'll shoot a full magazine from the 1911 for you the next time we go out.
