Hi everyone,

I'm leaving in Vietnam (everything relating to Camera is holy expensive here). I'm traveling to Singapore soon and want to purchase a Canon 70-200mm L f/4. I would be very grateful if you could suggest a couple of addresses selling Canon lens, reliable ones, of course. Thank you very much.

Ps: Hope you can include the link to their site! Lots of thanks.

not sure of shops in Singapore .... but in the Singapore airport there is at least one shop that has the 5dmkii/50D several "L". i was there in late Feb 2009 and they had a 70-200 f2.8 IS.
The prince on the 70-200 was the same as or just a hair below US prices.

Sorry .... i did not get a website.
I think Terminal #3

I did not check out terminal #2.

For Singapore, first make sure you check the Canon lens price guide thread from the ClubSNAP photo community: http://www.clubsnap.com …s/showthread.php?t=465032 (external link) You will get both the bets prices and the best stores with links and everything. I have bought stuff at Cathay Photo (Peninsula) and T.K. Foto. Both excellent.

I was in Singapore in December and to be honest I didn't find the prices that cheap compared to the UK, when you factor in the fact that a lens purchased in the UK I could realistically return for very little cost the saving just didn't seem worth it.

In Singapore, you can visit the following stores for reliable photography products:-

Funan Mall (North Bridge Road)
1. Alan Photo (http://www.alanphoto.com.sg/ (external link))
2. Balley Photo (Very good prices)
Both the above shops are on the same level (which level, don't remember)

Peninsulla Plaza (North Bridge Road)
1. Cathay Photo (http://www.cathayphoto.com.sg/ (external link))

Sim Lim Square
===========
1. Alan Photo
2. Song Brothers (http://www.singaporemirror.com.sg/co_songbros.htm (external link))

Ang Mo Kio
========
MS Color (http://www.mscolor.com.sg/store_locations.htm (external link)) (Good Price)

Do not buy from stores like - Challenger, Harvey Norman, Courts - if you don't like to pay more for your camera.

All the best.

Also, do ask for GST (equivalent to VAT) refund form. You can claim back the tax while going back at the airport.

Also, unlike other countries, in Singapore you need to bargain for the best price.

Sim Lim Square, like many downtown shopping centers in Singapore, has quite a lot of photo shops and, if you are a good haggler, can be quite reasonable, even by U.S. standards. HOWEVER, you really need to be honest with yourself as to whether or not you are a good haggler...some of the shops are *masters* at luring you in with a great price on a body (for example) and then, before you know it, you've purchased innumerable extras at probably exorbitant prices, negating the great price you got on the body (yes, this is a true story, and yes, it is my story).

Anywho, Sim Lim great if you're up to it. If you simply want a straight deal and a good quality store to back it up if you ever have problems, then go to Parisilk in Holland Village.
