Has anyone ever come across or heard of, bought or know of, anyone who has bought a knockoff, high end, Canon product? I mean could a 70-200 2.8 isL be faked? Assuming the person buying it didn't know what the real deal looked and felt like? What about a Camera? Wouldn't it be so darn hard to put together a fake Canon 5D or a 40D?
I have just bought my second used lens off eBay and I had good luck the first time but I still wounder if there is suck a thing as Canon knockoffs out there. If so, could you tell it from the real deal if you had them side-by-side?

Yes I only buy from reputable feedbacks, and this lens is one month old with B&H invoice but I was just thinking could there be Frauds out there (I don't mean false advertising ).

Just want to know if anyone out there had heard of such a thing and how hard you think it would be to fake.

Likewise...

I've heard of bogus CF cards and questionable batteries but never bodies or glass.

It would be some criminal group that could fund then fake Canon build and quality control of lenses. Put it another way, if a fake Canon lens was discovered the news would flash around internet forums like POTN!

It's not as easy to replicate the optical technology in Canon lenses as it is to, say, throw a Sandisk Extreme IV label on an inferior flash card, and any resulting flaws would be far easier to find than realizing the speed of your flash card isn't up to par for example.

What about the fake 1D Mark III's from China? I've heard those exist.

It would be much easier to just steal a truck of them than to fake them.

It's far simpler just to say you have one, sell it, and then run with the money.
