Has anyone experienced this condition: when I enable Sensor cleaning through the 20D menu, their is a message that reads: Cannot Clean Sensor. If and when I press the shutter button, the shutter will open for about 3-5 seconds revealing the sensor before the shutter close. I've never cleaned the 20D sensor before, but my 1Ds MKII shutter stays open until I turn the camera off. BTW, my 20D battery is 100% full. Is this normal behavior for the 20D sensor cleaning?

I have not had that problem on my 20D. It works like your 1DsMKII.
Shutter stays open until it is powered off.

I cleaned the 20D just this week and it works like all other Canon camera's that I clean. I think something is wrong with your 20D.

Maybe the battery even being 100% charged is old and weak. My suggestion would be to try a different battery or clean the contact points.

+1, I clean mine regularly and it works like my 1D. Are you trying it with the Lens on maybe. Just a thought.

I'd say the battery does not have enough charge. Are you charguing it fully before attempting the clean? if so, is it an older battery?

From my experience, the battery is 1000% charged and the lens is off the camera every time I attempt to clean the sensor. This is what peaked my interest in why the 20D shutter window consistently closed during cleaning. Let's not forget the message that states the sensor cannot be cleaned when I initiate sensor cleaning through the menu screen.

I understood what you are saying and was only telling you what I would do in your situation.

1. You get an error message telling you something is wrong.
2. Your camera tries flipping the mirror but closes.
3. I assume a baatery may be your first problem.
(Sure, you say it's charge but it's worth trying a diffrent one as the only option I see left is #4.)
4. Assume the 20D has a functional problem that needs to be sent in to Canon.

There are no other settings that I play with when I clean sensors manually and I clean a 20D, 40D, 50D and 5D MKII using the same procedures.

I forgot to mention that my 20D is using the OEM battery grip. Could this be an issue vs using the OEM battery pack. I've never experienced this issue before I installed the battery grip.

The obvious thing is to try it without the grip and see if it still happens... odd.
