B&H (external link) is showing them in stock. Has anyone taken the plunge yet? :D

Apparently someone has because they're now out-of-stock. Someone post some reviews already!

I'm looking forward to seeing pictures and reading reviews too! There was a post at another forum with LINK (external link) a to a German forum that had a series of pictures taken with the 18-250 OS. However, you have to join the forum to view them and I've not been able to accomplish that. Using Google to translate the posts, it sounds like the center is very sharp but it's soft on the borders.

I'd like to see for myself... ;)

Well, iirc there are some German guys on this site, so maybe they could translate for us or something.

With Canon and Nikon 18-200's having certain downfalls, I cant see Sigma picking up 50mm and increasing IQ. Maybe they can build them close in IQ and that will be a plus.

HERE (external link) is a gallery of Sigma 18-250 OS and Tamron 18-270 VC photos. They aren't full sized images but they do show differences between the two lenses. I'm not sure which one is better.

Nice find Jim! I'll have to take a closer look at those later.

I have taken the "plunge." I was anxiously awaiting some reviews of this lens also. I walked into my local dealers store, and lo and behold, he had just got some in. I dropped in onto my 40d body at the store, and was impressed..so I walked out with it.

From what I see so far, the lens exceeds my expectations. Understand my expectations were reasonable given this lens range-I did not expect to compare IQ to some of my other images. So far, I have been pleasantly surprised. The AF is fast and quiet. The OS is exceptional...smooth, very little jumping around, and also quiet. I have not done anything serious with the lens yet, but I have shot about 200 handheld just checking it out. I am able to get acceptable sharpness cranked out to 250 on a 1.6 body handheld without running the ISO up very high. Colors, contrast and saturation are also very good.

In summary, from I see so far, I am impressed. Better than what I had expected from a lens with this range.

Excellent! Can you post a link to some images?

Thank you!

I too am very keen on this lens and would like to see some shots taken with it. I had the Sigma 18-200 OS in the past but sold it. Not because I was unhappy with it. It did what I expected but I needed the money at the time to buy another lens.

You can check gizmodo.com for a "review/rant" about the lens. It's hardly a review, though, and sounds more like vague opinions of a person who has just started shooting DSLRs. The opinions are general and there are no fine details in regard to the performance of the lens. They have some very poorly shot samples at low res, so that just reinforces the weakness of the article.
