When shooting a bright picture I often have problems seeing the text data displayed at the bottom of the viewfinder because it is very dim. Is the text brightness adjustable?

No.

You could try one of these, it shrinks the view of the VF a bit, making it easier to see:

This might also be the result of my wearing glasses while shooting. ...Thanks I will try one.

Definitely could be. I wear glasses and run into the same issue sometimes. The extender can definitely help--it's at least worth trying for the $18.00. :)

No I don't think, so we had some of the sunniest days all year over the weekend and I recall commenting to myself on not being able to read the data eiher, as you indicate.

The brightness of the data in the VF DOES change with the ambient light, it will be brighter in the daylight than it will in the dark, but it isn't manually adjustable.
