Is there any way to remotely release the shutter on any Ixus? If not, how about a G-series? I can really imagine some good remote gorillapod-mounted shots (like of a bird on a bird table, or mount the camera on a football goal, or something)...

If it supports Remote Capture there are some USB-based triggers you can get when you use CHDK, but if the camera doesn't support Remote Capture, you'd have to kludge a mechanism to hold a release over the shutter button.

CHDK also allows the camera to be motion triggered when you use a script
