What is the method of Adorama's "Free Shipping" when ordering Canon bodies (e.g. something expensive like a 1D Mk III)?

I've ordered numerous filters from Adorama (and Adorama's Amazon sales) using the "free shipping 10-14 days" method and they have all been shipped standard USPS first class mail (and unbelievably, arrive in 2-days, every time)!

What about larger/more expensive items?
Do these get sent USPS as well or UPS Ground? Does anyone know if Adorama uses UPS Mail Innovations or Fedex SmartPost (you know, the service where Fedex/UPS gives it to USPS and they loose it/kick it around for 2wks, and then it shows up on your doorstep a couple weeks later, broken...)???

I have ordered from Adorama a number of times and always use their free option. As far as I recall, whatever I order gets to me in no less than 7-business days. Some items come UPS Ground and a few smaller items may have shipped USPS First Class Mail (which is always faster than UPS Ground... ;))

As for damage and arrival, they are providing the shipping service so they bear all responsibility for insurance, parcel loss, etc...

But if you are really that concerned because of your location...pay the extra for a specific service. What is $10-$20 either way when spending a grand or more?

Nothing I ever received from them came other than UPS or USPS. Of course that might vary by where you live. SD might be one of those difficult service areas if you are not near a city of some sort. Small rural PO's are notoriously frustrating to deal with at times. But be happy you are not in Canada where even their postal service will claim that a person's address does not exist. My last client in Canookia had a heck of a time because it was winter, cold and nasty and her suspicion was the carrier was just a lazy sort because even UPS could find her addy. And in some parts of Canada, that is really amazing...UPS when i still used them was a PITA shipping to Canada, then again that was about 15yrs back now.

Real men shoot Pentax because we're born with our own Canon's!!

Depends on how big the item is. A filter will probably be first class. I ordered a bunch of flash cards with free shipping and they were shipped UPS. But I do like the first class shipping as it is much faster than UPS.

UPS ground .... and it doesn't get any slower than that :D. i think it took my 300L eight days to get to me.

CF cards take three or fours days via usps.

I agree UPS ground. However the speed is mostly dependant on how far you are from the shipping center. I am lucky, even with the slow shipping I am next day as I am close.

I ordered a hood from them and got it in about 3-4 days (forgot which method) from the day of order. I will second with what others have said: it depends on the item(s) but the slowest would be with standard ground shipping for big items. If they ship it out the same day or the next day you should get it in about 5-6 days depending on where you are (5 days from E. Coast to W. Coast but 3-4 days if you're closer).

Hell, for dropping that kind of coin on a 1dmk3 they should overnight it to you for free.

J&R has them in stock. I got one from Norman Camera earlier this week as well.

Adorama is FAST, no matter what service I select. At least from their New Jersey warehouse to Chicago. In fact, they are the fastest shipper I have used.

Adorama's free shipping is not "horse & buggy" speed like other companies. At worse, they'll ship it regular UPS ground.

It seems that everything Adorama does is lightening speed...
