I decided to tackle the beauty dish today. It was very easy, and I think it turned out very nice. I used the tutorial that was posted on strobist. I haven't taken any shots with it yet, but my sister-in-law is going to come by to shoot tomorrow and I will try it out. Here are a couple of pics. What I used, and the final product.

Gosh, that looks great...what is the dish made of? What's the diameter?

Don't forget to post some photos taken with the dish.

Oh, sorry, I almost forgot. The diameter is 14". It is made of plastic.

Very cool, but is it worth it money wise?

What flash is in it? An Alien Bee or an OEM shoe-mounted flash?

looks great, but definitely should have done it without the case covering. You'll get smoother and softer light that way.

Your photography is great. I've spent a half-hour going through your stuff, and it's really nice. :)

I have about $23.00 in it, so even if it turns out to be trash, I'm not out that much.

In the picture, I have a Promaster 7500 in it. I plan on using either a 580EX, or an SB24 in it when I shoot.

I don't understand your point. Are you talking about using it without the CD case? Wouldn't that be like direct flash?

HI Chris,

The true test of whether you're design is successful is to see images shot with the dish. When you can, please post some samples.

Subscribing so I can see the results with images, also. But so far it looks great. If the results are to your liking, would you mind sharing the info regarding material, etc.?

Here's the links you should read up on. I think you won't get that great of results with the mirror being that far away from the flash head:

http://lpblog.lightandpixels.com …eauty-dish-adjust-anyway/ (external link)

http://lightandpixels.com …ilding-a-diy-beauty-dish/ (external link)

The guy ditched the idea of using the cd case and made his adjustable, so that he'd have the smoothest light coming out of it, as possible.
